About The Institution of Environmental Sciences
The Institution of Environmental Sciences (IES) is a charitable organisation which promotes and raises public awareness of environmental science by supporting professional scientists and academics working in this crucial arena. As a seminal environmental sciences organisation, founded in 1971, the Institution is consulted by the Government and other interested parties on environmental issues. The Institution has strong ties with Higher Education and promotes and supports environmental science and sustainable development in universities and colleges both nationally and internationally.
Membership of the Institution offers stepping stones on a career path - from student to Chartered status, attracting professionals of high standing with significant specialist and interdisciplinary experience.
The IES and its Associations
The IES is a member of the Science Council, the European Federation of Associations of Environmental Professionals and the Society for the Environment. Through its training work in sustainable development it has developed close links with the Environment Agency, Forum for the Future, and many other professional bodies. The IES works closely with the Committee Heads of Environmental Science to accredit programmes of study in universities and to support and promote the discipline in higher education.
Through its support for the development of the Institute of Air Quality Management, the IES has developed close links with a range of air quality organisations - including Environmental Protection UK.
The IES works with all of these partners, on behalf of its members, to advance the environmental science field and individual professional development.
