Application Procedure
Application to the Institution of Environmental Science is carried out through a simple paper based review process. Applications are assessed by a membership panel which convenes at least four times each year year, and is made up of IES Council members. This process can take a maximum of three months.
The Institution has one universal application form, which covers Full and Associate Membership. Please download this form, and read though it carefully, before sending it on to the Institution. Supporting documents to your application should include graduation certificates.
Affiliate membership is for individuals with an interest in environmental issues and practices, and also for those with qualifications or experience not directly related to the field.

Re-grading and Fellowship
If you are currently an Associate Member of the Institution your can apply to re-grade your membership, if you feel you have gained more professional experience since your last application. We advise that you contact the office before applying, to obtain an realistic idea of the outcome of any re-grading attempt. The application forms for this are also below.
Members of the Institution who have substantial experience - normally at least seven years - and show leadership, eminence or distinction in their field, can apply for Fellowship. Applications should be accompanied by two references that make a case for awarding fellowship. Application forms for Fellowship are below.

Graduate Applications for Associate Membership
Students who are enrolled on the Institution of Environmental Science’s accredited undergraduate or postgraduate programmes and courses may apply for free Student Membership of the Institution. Graduates from these accredited graduate or postgraduate courses are eligible to apply for Associate Membership at a discounted rate by completing the application form below. This application form is only for use by graduates from IES accredited courses.
