As the 21st century unfolds, environmental science is becoming increasingly sophisticated and ever more necessary. There has never been a greater need for understanding and solutions. The Institution of Environmental Sciences is therefore pleased to announce the launch of the John Rose Award to honour and publicise a piece of outstanding post-graduate environmental science research that will inform and motivate the general public.
The fruits of scientific research do not always extend to where they are most needed. It is the mission of the IES, and of the John Rose Award, to help exceptional research fulfil its potential by communicating it beyond the scientific community. A £1000 grant will be awarded to a project that demonstrates both innovative, quality research in environmental sciences as well as the capacity to disseminate findings to the general public. The grant will be used to promote the project as widely as possible and so maximise its value.
The Award will be officially presented by Baroness Barbara Young at the 2008 Burntwood Lecture on 12th November at the Royal Society in London.
