Website Updates
From 28th November to 3rd December we are swapping the IES website over to a new system. This means that some pages and links may temporarily be unavailable. If you have bookmarks on your browsers pointing towards the IES pages, these will have to be updated. Please bear with us while these changes are made. The new system should allow us to build more dynamic pages with better content and features. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.

Green Gown Awards
The Green Gown Awards, now in their 5th year, recognise exceptional initiatives being taken by universities and colleges across the UK to become more sustainable. The Awards have a variety of categories that universities and colleges can illustrate their achievements in both academic and estates management. A brochure of the 2008 winners has now been published.

Clever children more likely to vote Green
A study by the University of Edinburgh and the UK Medical Research Council and published in the journal Intelligence indicates childhood intelligence is linked to voting preferences and political involvement in later life. Not only are those with higher childhood IQs more likely to vote Green or Lib Dem, they are also more likely to vote in general and get involved in politics.

Future Morph
On Tuesday, November 4, Sir Tom McKillop launched Future Morph, the Science Council’s website designed to help encourage young people to study STEM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths). Future Morph has been created to show that studying these subjects beyond the age of 16 isn’t just a one track road to becoming a scientist or engineer – the skills and knowledge gained are valuable in almost any career and help make young people more employable. It contains a lively mix of information, tips, case studies and games, and includes sections for children, parents, teachers and careers staff.
