Membership Renewals
The 2009 Membership subscriptions are due on January 1st. You should have received the 2009 Membership Renewal Forms via email in the last few days. If you have not received these please contact the office. Subscriptions can be paid by credit or debit card, cheque or bank transfer.

CPD Records
All professional members (Fellows, Members and Associates) should have completed their CPD forms for 2008. If you want the Institution to look after these you can post them in with your membership renewal. Please print double-sided to save paper and filing space. Alternatively, keep them in a safe place at home. The IES will audit 10% of the membership each year. Further details on the scheme can be found here.

Website Poll
The majority of visitors to the IES website over the past two months have cast doubt on the UK Government's policies on tackling climate change. Of the 111 votes cast, 77% felt that the Government's approval of the new Kingsnorth coal-fired power station proves that it is not committed to tackling climate change. This month's question asks "Do you have any sympathy for the tactics of the rising number of environmental groups, such as Plane Stupid, that use direct action?" To vote, visit the IES homepage.

Thinking & Acting Sustainably Workshop
This one-day PP4SD workshop in London will bring together professionals from different areas to engage in practical activities and dialogue on sustainability and sustainable development. It is intended to explore ideas on how best to integrate sustainable development principles into professional practice. For more information see this flyer and application form.

Destinations of Leavers from HE
This winter, people who graduated from Research Council funded research degrees in 2005/06 will be included in a nationwide survey of graduates' destinations. This HESA longitudinal survey aims to give a clear picture of what postgraduate qualifiers go on to do after graduation. The first biennial longitudinal survey, carried out in 2006/07, showed that 87.3% of qualifiers from postgraduate research courses entered employment, and that most of the remainder went on to further study. More information about the survey can be found on the Higher Education Statistics Agency's website.
