The Language of Sustainability: Shouting but not being heard

On Monday 27th April, the IES in conjunction with PP4SD and PARN, held a one day conference on the language of sustainability. The conference, attended by forty participants, looked at the way in which different groups approach and convey sustainability. One of the participants, Morgan Phillips, wrote a report on the day on his excellent blog, Becoming Green. Slides and activities from the event will be added to the IES website shortly.

Adam RunningMarathon
Adam Donnan, our Senior Executive Officer completed the London Marathon on 26th April in 3 hours 40 minutes. This was his first marathon which he was running in aid of Asthma UK. You can still sponsor him here.

Office Closure
The IES office will be closed from May 4th -8th. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.

Website Poll
The majority of visitors to the IES website have shown their continuing dissatisfaction with the UK Government's environmental credentials, despite recent high profile legislation. 68% of the 175 votes cast felt campaigners from more than 40 developing countries were right to brand the UK Government a "climate criminal". This month's question comes from the recent conference on Sustainability and asks "Has the term 'sustainability' become meaningless?" To vote, visit the IES homepage.

Hong Kong MembersFirst IES Hong Kong Meeting
The first regional meeting of IES members in Hong Kong took place on 16th April. The participants heard speeches on Evidences of Global Warming from LI Hau-leung, author of Looking for the polar bear in the South Pole and CHING Sze-ho, Ken, Director of Eco-education and Resources Centre.
