Sign petition logoLaunch of Non-Exhaust Pollution Minisite
Emissions from tyre-wear, brake wear, re-suspended road dust and corrosion of engine parts have been shown to equal or surpass the contributions made to atmospheric pollution made by exhaust emissions. The 2008 John Rose Award winner, Samantha Lawrence has used part of her £1000 grant from the IES to create an exciting website to inform the public on the issue of non-exhaust pollution. She has also launched a petition to prompt the Government to investigate non-exhaust emissions to reduce atmospheric particles, improving air quality and reducing premature deaths. Full details in the article below.

Non-Exhaust Emissions & the John Rose Award

Charlotte Cook

Atmospheric particle pollution has been linked to a number of health issues and is thought to be directly responsible for a reduction in the life expectancy of a person living in the UK by an average of 7-8 months. Road transport is a major source of atmospheric particle emissions, particularly within urban areas. Current legislation has only focused on reducing emissions from the exhaust pipe of vehicles. New studies have shown that other unregulated vehicle-related emissions, such as non-exhaust emissions, can equal or surpass exhaust contributions. read more...
