New technology reducing emissions from cement
'Green' cement may soon become more widely available, as Calix, based in Sydney, Australia filed a patent on a process to produce larger batches using a new method. Calcium magnesium carbonate particles are dropped into a vertical tube full of superheated steam, which causes the particles to explode into grains, increasing the overall surface area.

Sandbag logoSandbag: The cutting carbon series
This series includes two publications designed to explain the ways the EU Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS) affects personal action on climate change. The first instalment explores how the ETS confounds green consumers' attempts to fight climate change through changing how they consume electricity. The second instalment attempts to reopen the debate on voluntary carbon offsetting by re-evaluating the main criticisms first levelled at the industry back in 2006.
