Water Bird Workshop

On Tuesday 23rd January 2007, the IES supported a workshop led by the Environment Agency exploring the use of bird population trends as indicators of the wider freshwater environment. Birds are charismatic and already widely surveyed, they are often top predators, and they are mobile across landscapes using both diverse and specific habitats. They are therefore a useful taxon for the development of environmental indicators, meaningful to a wider public and integrating multiple impacts on the freshwater environment.

Various presentations were made at the workshop and these are accessible below.

Presentations are listed by the name of the presenter.  The document ‘Bird Workshop Key Points’ captures in raw form the key feedback from syndicate groups grappling with issues relating to bird indicator development.

Please note that the presentations below are in an informal state, but that a more complete report will be made available on this web site in due course. All documents are PowerPoint presentations unless otherwise indicated.
